Weekly update: Saturday events, BLAST classes and maybe even changing Kansas City?

Bike Clubs are riding every day of the week, improving their community and changing the way people bike and drive.

Strange things are afoot: no one is honking?

One week seemed like chance, two weeks was a fluke, but we have been out riding with Bike Clubs every day for over a month, and something is different: no one is honking!*

In fact, on Saturday (check out Saturday social rides here) as we were strugging up Rosedale Rd after an exhausting morning falling off of stuff at the Rosedale Park skate park, somebody pulled up, rolled down their window and said "you're supposed to be pedaling that thing!" What? Not "get off the road?" No "sidewalk!"? What's happening?

That's not all, either.  In the last week, all the honks we've gotten have been from friends and family, waving like goofballs and wishing they were out on the ride with us.  I've even seen kids (not in our clubs) riding bikes the correct direction and wearing helmets!

Could it be that Bike Clubs are starting to make a serious difference in urban KCK, not just on their individual projects and trails, but in the way people bike and drive? Time will tell, but it's sure nice to ride in peace and quiet in the meantime!

PS It's easy to help make a better city happen right now! Volunteer with us ordonate and keep a good thing going!
